“I started Jitsu as a dare at University and I found myself challenged, frustrated and determined to improve. I never believed I would stay with it, but the social life was a huge retainer in the early, clumsy, but hugely enjoyable days. Over a decade later, the Art and the friends I have made are a big part of my life. The social side persists (if a little less hectic), but more importantly I constantly find new challenges and motivation in both my teaching and application of Jitsu as I meet new students and revisit my teachers.
Southampton has been running for over four years and is a fantastic place to challenge yourself to improve physically, mentally and even enjoy yourself occasionally, but it will only happen if you stop telling yourself you want to do something and instead, get down here, get on the mat and try Jitsu.”

I started jitsu 3 1/2 years ago, 1 week after my 1st born, I had always wanted to take up a martial art after finishing my rugby playing. I really enjoy the club ethic we have developed. The national competitions also have given me time to explore how others are trianing around the country. The southampton club has given me new skills and much improved confidence. Due to my job as an Intensive Care Nurse i also help with some of the minor bumps and bruises that might occur during training.

"I first started Jitsu in December 2007. I wanted to learn self defence and also try and get fitter (I didn't have the diamond pattern jumpers for golf!). I was attracted to Jitsu due to its range of techniques such as arm locks, wrist locks, throws and ground holds. I was welcomed at Southampton Jitsu and find it to be a very friendly and helpful club.”

"I first started Jitsu after moving to Southampton for a job, not knowing the area or anyone that lived here I decided that I wanted to take up a hobby which would be a fun social activity and a way to keep fit. Southampton Jitsu was the ideal solution as it was close to where I live and a friendly warm environment. Joining the club has exceeded my expectations.I have not only gained a community of friends, a fun way to keep fit but also self defence skills which are realistic and effective even when faced with someone bigger and stronger!" |

“I started Jitsu because I wanted to learn a martial art. I had done kick boxing before that, but I was attracted to Jitsu after attending a session because it seemed to me the most realistic martial art; I believe it would work in a real life situation (after exhausting the running option!) What's kept me doing Jitsu is the sense of self-discipline and self-confidence you get as you progress through. At SJC, it's a nice friendly atmosphere and an enjoyable workout whatever your level. ”
